Undated typescript introduction for "A Bibliography of the Eighteen-Nineties" (which was never completed), with autograph corrections in ink and pencil. The unpublished introduction contains information about the nineties in England, and several highly interesting pages developing the centrality of Edgar Allen Poe as forerunner of and influence upon the writers and artists of the English nineties.

Alphonse James Albert Symons was born in a suburb of London and privately educated, until apprenticed to a furrier at age fourteen. With little experience in the book trade, he founded the First Editions Club, and soon published a bibliography of William Butler Yeats.
